The Canadian Port of Hamilton is on the western edge of Lake Ontario near Toronto.
Facts:
- The largest port in Ontario
- 11.6 million tonnes of material transported per year (Number 7 in the Great Lakes)
- Exports of Ontario-grown corn, wheat and soybeans; manufactured goods and machinery
- Imports of crop fertilizer (urea ammonium nitrate, potash); bulk petrochemicals (gasoline, ashphalt, and cement); raw materials for car manufacturing, durable goods, construction materials
Hamilton is well inland from the Atlantic Ocean. It is accessible via the St. Lawrence River and Great Lakes Waterway.
